| Cathy Wood, |
as caller and guitarist with the band,
has made significant contribution to Edinburgh's ceilidh scene. Her
ascerbic wit and skill in encouraging everyone onto the dance floor, has
been the glue of many social events over the years.
A former member of the Portobello Ceilidh Band, and an
experienced step dancer, singer and pianist, Cathy also performs in a duo
with her husband Eric. As well as her musical career, she works as a
senior health visitor and has two daughters, one of whom is a full time
musician in Glasgow. |

| Gica Loening, |
founder of the Belle Star Band, and
more recently Celter Schmelter klezmer duo, works freelance in
community music, and is currently studying for an Msc in Music in the
Community.
Fluent as a traditional fiddler, she studied klezmer fiddle in London
and the US and now moves happily between ceilidh and klezmer genres. An
ex-member of the Ceilidh Collective, and Yiddish Song Project,
she also teaches fiddle for Edinburgh's Scots Music Group and Fun Fiddle.
She has three sons. |

| Lynn Sampsell, |
former bassist with Burach
and the Ceilidh Collective, has contributed to many musical
outfits and events in Edinburgh. A Chinese speaker, Lynn has taught
music at the Edinburgh Chinese Community School and performed many times
for Chinese New Year events in Edinburgh. As well as her experience as a
ceilidh performer, Lynn is founder and leader of rock band
The Electric Avenue Band. Their new CD Off the Grid
will be available soon. |

| Sarah-Jane Summers |
is our guest fiddler with the Belle Stars. A former pupil of the
late Donald Riddell, she was recently one of the headline acts at
Edinburgh's Fiddle Festival and was a finalist in the 2003
BBC Scottish Young Traditional Musician of the Year.
She has also toured with The Grand Union Orchestra and has
worked with many artists including The Unusual Suspects and
Malinky. Sarah-Jane is also much in demand for her teaching and
workshop skills, this year she is tutoring at the prestigious
Swannanoa Gathering alongside such performers as Martin Hayes
and John Doyle. Her debut solo CD is due out this year. |

| Alison Cowie |
trained in Computer Science and then spent ten years working in
Canada where she also played as a contradance fiddler. She brings a
great North American swing to the Belle Stars and is also a prolific
tune writer. (Check out original Belle Star tunes "Compliments to
Loyko‘s Leather Pants," "In bed with the Belle Stars",
"Winton Hall," and many more). An excellent step dancer, and
dance caller, Alison will be much missed as she is currently on
sabbatical from the band having taken a full-time post teaching
Computing at Portobello High School. She has two sons. |

| Jenny Gardner, |
also currently on sabbatical from the band, is a seasoned and
respected Scottish fiddle player, whose playing has graced many
recordings, among them The Poozies, Eat the Seats, Rock Salt and
Nails, and Salsa Celtica. She teaches fiddle for
Portobello School of Music and Fun Fiddle. and has two sons. Her
self-penned album Cho Chuk reflects Jenny's many
influences from trad to trip hop, and is backed by the cream of
Edinburgh's folk community. |
